Tying flies is an art. Art supplies should be affordable to let the artist create without costing too much. Tubes are fun for experimenting with new fly designs. I think building a fly is very similar to constructing a lure in that is needs to also be utilitarian. It is essential that the fisherman have confidence in the bait, enabling them to fish it with authority. I really got my first lathing experience from hand turning musky baits and constructing bucktails. This, along with tying flies, has been a part for my life for a long time. I have always loved the idea of a new and better mouse trap. I believe these things have led me to reel making because they are very similar in nature.
